Project description

CBC1 W170100 Threadlow Point Embankment
Threadlow Point Embankment is a Category 1 structure situated between Cark and Ulverston stations. The defence comprises an embankment variously protected by roughly dressed masonry pitching, rock armour and gabion baskets. There were no maintenance records on this structure and therefore the primary scope is to carry out an essential repairs to enhance the resilience of the defence to maintain the upkeep of the asset and public safety.

The chosen option was to install rock armour along the problematic areas.

The works have been planned to be undertaken midweek days, considerations have been made around the local residents to ensure minimum disruption wherever possible. A comprehensive ecology survey will be undertaken prior to work commencing due to the location and nature of the works. The works will be planned around low tides which will be displayed in the cabins and briefed each day, sufficient time will be planned to ensure staff and plant are clear of the work area in advance of the high tide.
A start date is programmed for 06.08.22 until 24.09.22, depending on the relevant consents. Works will be planned between August & September subject to MMO licence; this is to ensure it will be outside the wintering birds window. Usual working times on site will be dictated by low tide we will work one 8 hour shift in any 24 hour period.
The access route to site will require tidal working so consideration has been given to working times, tide times will dictate the working hours and limit the timeframe available, sufficient time has been planned to ensure all staff and plant are clear of the work area in advance of high tide.
