Project description

CBC1 W21050 Parton to Harrington Sea Wall No 3
Parton to Harrington Sea Wall No. 3 is a 0.45km section of coastal defence. The defence comprises of an earth embankment with a section of stone pitching. The embankment is protected in parts by rock armour. There are however some areas of unprotected embankment. The railway line is very close to the edge of the defence. It has been identified that the scour prevention that was previously installed may be washed out therefore compromising the railway.

Preventative works are required to maintain the operational line and mitigate against a potential wash out. UTX needs to be repaired.

The rock armour will be delivered to the work areas using A25 dump trucks, the trucks will be loaded in the compound using an excavator and rock grab, the route to the site is along the beach so consideration to members of the public will be managed, signs will be placed along the route and right of way will always be given to the public. The areas of work will be marked out by the engineer and the toe excavated, the excavated beach materials will be levelled across the beach to be dispersed by the tide, staff will lay geotextile strips in to the dig before the excavator places the rock armour into the excavation and wraps the geotextile around the rock to form a Dutch toe, the rock will be placed until the design levels have been achieved, this process will be repeated until the area is complete.
An existing UTX carries water under the track and onto the beach through the proposed sea defence area, the existing headwall will be removed, and a new pipe installed to extend the UTX past the line of the new sea defence, a new precast headwall will be installed at the outfall. On completion of the works the beach area and access road will be profiled to match the surrounding ground profile.
A start date is programmed for 20.04.21 until 02.07.21, depending on the relevant consents. Works will be planned between April & June subject to MMO licence. Usual working times on site will be dictated by low tide we will work one 8 hour shift in any 24 hour period.

The access route to site will require tidal working so consideration has been given to working times, tide times will dictate the working hours and limit the timeframe available, sufficient time has been planned to ensure all staff and plant are clear of the work area in advance of high tide.
