Project description

Teesside GasPort
A scheme is proposed to import Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to an existing jetty on the Tees estuary. The proposed scheme comprises the installation of a floating storage regasifation unit (FSRU) at an existing, currently unused jetty. When the FSRU is in place, LNG carriers will berth next to the FRSU in a side-to-side mooring configuration and discharge the LNG into the FSRU before leaving again.

In order to enable the LNG import facility to function, the following works are required:

• Concrete and steel work repairs to the existing jetty.
• Replacement / repair of ancillary items on the existing jetty and mooring dolphins.
• Modifications to onshore mooring blocks.
• Dredging of the existing berth and disposal of dredged material.

PD Teesport is the statutory Harbour Authority and has powers to dredge under the Tees and Hartlepool Port Authority Act 1996. A marine licence is therefore not required for the proposed dredge (as PDT is the applicant), but a marine licence is required for the proposed offshore disposal activity.

All other elements of the proposed scheme are either located on land, or are maintenance of the existing jetty structure and are, therefore, exempt from marine licensing.

This marine licence application is therefore for the proposed disposal of dredged material only.
The proposed dredge and disposal activity is predicted to take place within an approximately three month period. Dredging is proposed to be undertaken on a 24 hour a day basis.
