Heysham 1 & 2 dredging activities
Project background
The cooling water intake area, which, along with the outlying harbour, is periodically required to be dredged to maintain cooling water flows to both Heysham 1 and Heysham 2 Nuclear Power Station, via Main Cooling Water and Emergency Cooling Water/ Reactor Sea Water intakes locted in the Heysham harbour area.
Programme of works
The licence is for maintenance dredging activities to be carried out in the period 2019- 2029. The amount that may need to be removed is approximately 75,000 m3/ year (105,000 dry tonnes/140,000 wet tonnes). Dredging acitivities will be carried out as required by the licencee, with prior approval from the Harbour Authority. This is a continuation of previous maintenance dredging regimes and usually undertaken over two to three campaigns per year.
