Project description
Project title
Galloper O&M Facility, Harwich
Project background
Galloper Wind Farm Ltd plans to develop an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) facility at Harwich International Port to service the Galloper Wind Farm, a 336MW wind farm which is being constructed by RWE Innogy approximately 40km east of Harwich. The wind farm is due for completion in 2018. The proposed O&M facility will accommodate all the staff, plant, equipment and materials required to operate and maintain the wind farm during its 23 year life and will consist of:
• An O&M building split into three main areas (warehouse space, space for office staff and space for offshore technicians).
• A helipad and hangar.
• A new floating berthing facility for Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) in the north-west end of Bathside Bay.
• External storage and parking areas.
• An access road.
An Environmental Report has been produced to accompany this application. Due to the size of the appendices, these will follow separately on a CD.
The Environmental Report has taken account of all comments received from regulators and stakeholders following submission of the original application in 2016.
Programme of works
It is currently anticipated that the total duration of the construction works themselves will be 10 months. It is anticipated that construction works for the new facility will commence in Quarter 2 of 2018. Based on this assumed start date, it is anticipated that the site will be operational in Quarter 2 or Quarter 3 of 2019.
The assessment (with specific regard to potential effects on waterbirds) has been based on the possibility that the construction works may be undertaken during the overwinter and/or passage periods.
The capital dredging is expected to be completed within one month. The piling required for the pontoons is anticipated to be completed over a period of approximately two weeks.
Helicopter operation will be restricted to between 16th May and 31st July.
