Project description
Project title
Marker Buoys
Project background
A line of new seasonal yellow markers will demarcate the boundary between bathing and leisure areas within the harbour to make the existing arrangements easier to follow especially for visitors to the harbour. This will reinforce the separation that already exists and currently marked by two white lines on the wall of the Eastern Docks and the Prince of Wales Pier.
The Buoys are not located in a group but as individual buoys as shown on the attached document entitled location of the buoys, which also shows the location of the leisure zone marker buoy.
There will be a further leisure zone special mark buoy positioned for contractor purposes - a yellow unlit pellet buoy.
In connection with licence for the marine works for Dover Western Docks Development (MLA/2015/00420) a further four marine exclusion marker buoys, to mark the construction zone for DWDR, will be placed in the vicinity of the Prince of Wales Pier. These buoys are of the same specification as the leisure zone buoys and are not located in a group but as individual buoys.
A rock line used to demark a closed section of beach will run continuously from the seawall at 51˚ 07' 11.45''N 01˚ 18' 46.88''E to meet a barrier float line at the MLWS mark at 51˚ 07' 10.23''N 01˚ 18' 49.47''E.
The floating line is similar to those used to mark lanes in swimming pools and will mark the western end of the leisure zone and will run
to yellow marker buoy Alpha. The four buoys are 50 cm buoys and do not have mooring points.
All the buoys and barrier float line will not be placed within a recognised anchorage as shown on an Admiralty chart nor will they be placed in an area used for military or defence purposes as shown on an Admiralty Chart.
They will not be placed in a site that is shown on an Admiralty chart as hosting cables, pipelines or other structures.
Programme of works
It is intended that the leisure zone marker buoys will be in place from 1 April to 31 October each year for the next 5 years. They will be deposited by the harbour launch.
The leisure zone special mark buoy and DWDR construction zone buoys and barrier float line will not be removed at the end of the season and a further licence application will made for their removal or relocation when appropriate.
