Project description

Long's Wharf Jetty, Yarmouth
The existing suspended platform at Long’s Wharf is 3.6m in length and is all that currently remains of a jetty which was originally 13.4m long and 1.8m wide. It is currently used as a sundeck but has previously been used for the purposes of mooring small boats and to provide access to them. The applicant would like to construct a new jetty to serve the same purpose.

The proposed new jetty at 1.4m width is narrower than the previous jetty but is longer (21.6m), so that it would extend out to a bed level approximately equivalent to chart datum. It incorporates access stairs rather than a ladder, to provide access facilities for older and less able users. No demolition works are proposed as the new jetty would be positioned alongside the remains of the existing.

It is proposed that the new jetty is supported on black painted tubular steel piles. The remainder of the jetty construction would be of timber construction, including pile crossheads, deck joists, deck boards and handrailing. For reasons of durability and safety, it is proposed to construct the access steps using galvanised steel stringers with anti-slip fibreglass open grid treads.
