Project description

Floating yacht club at Brighton Marina
In 2006, the local planning authority Brighton and Hove City Council ('the Council') granted planning permission (BH2006/01124) for a scheme providing 853 residential units together with retail, office and community uses – known as the Brighton Marina Outer Harbour Development. In line with proposed changes to the design (though within the original footprint) and after an updated ES dated December 2012, the Council granted planning permission (BH2012/04048) on 23 May 2013 for the proposed amendments.

A marine licence for Phase 1 of the Development was granted for 192 units of residential and retail areas in December 2013 (Licence number: L/2013/00395). A screening application for Phase 2 of the Development was submitted to the MMO in May 2014 and is currently under consideration.

Clause 10.1 of the Section 106 Agreement that accompanies planning permission requires Brighton Marina Company Ltd. to ‘secure the provision of temporary premises for the RNLI lifeboat station and Yacht Club and divers office.’

Temporary premises for the RNLI lifeboat station have been accommodated elsewhere within the marina. This application is for the provision of a permanent floating yacht club and divers office within Brighton Marina, to enable Brighton Marina Company to meet the requirements of the Section 106 Agreement.
