Project description

Jury's Gap Outfall Emergency Works
The culvert discharging from Jury's Gap Tidal basin has collapsed. The collapse is in the intertidal zone of the beach at Broomhill Sands, Camber. The collapse is preventing flows from the Jury's Gut Sewer and White Kemp Sewer from discharging.
At present we are pumping the flows from the above watercourses 16km to discharge into the Rother near Rye. The water quality in the watercourses is failing, with increased salinity and increased ammonia from packaged sewerage discharges. The failing water quality poses an imminent environmental risk. Further, the reduced capacity of the watercourses poses an imminent flood risk to 400 houses at Jury's Gap, and an additional 200 houses along the White Kemp Sewer.
We are applying for an emergency licence to make safe the outfall, which will allow the discharge of the Jury's Gut Sewer and White Kemp Sewer. The emergency works will alleviate the environmental risk and flooding risk outlined above.
