Project description

Withernsea Commercial Boat Slipway
This project allows for the creation of a new slipway opposite the commercial boat compound at Withernsea and forms an important aspect of the work identified by the Withernsea and South East Holderness Regeneration Partnership. The partnership is made up of representatives from the public, private and voluntary/community sector, including Withernsea Town Council, with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council acting as lead partner and accountable body.

The partnership aims is to improve the economic, social & cultural well-being of Withernsea and south East Holderness through a series of projects and joint working.

The Sea Front and Promenade is identified in the long term Renaissance Plan (2011) for Withernsea as a priority improvement zone. This project forms part of a sea front and promenade Improvement programme.

The programme aims and objectives are to:

Phase 1 - Create and secure employment in the local fishing industry by improving the quality and quantity of the shell fish industry in Withernsea by developing an existing commercial fishing compound, and building a new fishing slip way. Providing a dedicated commercial boat slipway will separate boat launching operations from the general public which will improve beach safety and quality. It will also allow the possibility of developing a one way system through the town centre in the future as tractors will not have to be taken onto the main seafront road in Withernsea. A separate application for the commercial fishing compound has been approved by East Riding Council on behalf of Withernsea Town Council and the new compound is currently being constructed.

Phase 2 - Improve the public realm along the Withernsea South Promenade creating a vibrant place with facilities for residents and visitors
