Project description

Maryport South Beach, tidal deposit removals
To protect the South pier structure by removing the build up of gravel/sand grit material away from site.
Note: The pier structure has been in a state of disrepair for many years and is incapable of carrying any additional loading without risk of collapse.
Removal of tidal material has been ongoing since and before the Ministry officially closed the port in 1961. Vessels using the port do so at the owners risk. This situation will remain until the works of reclamaition & development, part funded by the Department of Environment are completed.

To maintain the present port access channel to the harbour by preventing the tidal material passing through the open lattice section of the pier structure.
To maintain a natural prolfile to the beach by controlling the grading and removal of material to and from the beach area.

There is no cost to the project. Contractor removes material away from the site at no charge. A Nominal roralty fee is collected from the contractor by the land holder/license applicant.
